Features of Dimm-System Punkt 1 (*P1) include: Point Dimming - the dimming control is reduced to a single point on the arm of the lamp, Tilt Switch - if the lamp gets tipped over, it will switch itself off, Soft On - a single "click" will turn the lamp on and then the lamp gradually brightens to full brightness, Soft/Delayed Off - a single "click" will turn the lamp off by dimming the lamp to 60% brightness, remaining at that level to allow you to exit the room and then gradually turning itself off and finally, Dimming Cycle - press and hold the dimmer down to cycle the lamp through all the dimming levels -release the dimmer when the lamp reaches the light level of your choice. I love this lamp, even though it was expensive. It provides a lot of light...with a small footprint. Built very sturdy with a heavy base to prevent tipping. And if it does fall over, instructions say it will automatically shut off. The halogen bulb is a little unusual, so I'm planning to get at least one spare from the manufacturer. The color the lamp emits is the deal maker or deal breaker. The hand-blown glass is mottled like "tortoise shell" but more golden. The product description said the color was of "sunset", however, it was somewhat different. If it were "sunset', it would have more orange undertones. However, the color leaned more toward a golden-yellowish. If you are sensitive about people seeing you in a yellowish light, then do not order it. I find it very relaxing, especially in the evening...also in the morning before sunrise. The lamp has a dimming feature that takes a little effort to figure out, but is not a problem.

Pros
-Nice simple design
-Nice finish
-Looks high quality (as long as someone doesn't walk near it...see cons)
Cons
-To turn the light to dim, you first need to hit the button, wait, get blasted by the full power light, push and hold the button again, and wait until it slowly dims down (maybe about 5 seconds).
-The top of the base where the post connects is not very stiff. The result is if ground shakes at all, the light amplifies the vibration and noticeably oscillates for many seconds. Not a big deal, but it doesn't leave you with the impression this is a well constructed light.
-On my ungrounded outlets, the light makes a small amount of noise when dimmed.
-Ridiculous volume of packaging materials.
I would have returned this light but the packaging was such that I was not getting this thing back in the box without a fight.
